Hunter Valley Wineries

Another must see, as Ron and I were told, is Hunter Valley, which is located about two and half hours north of Sydney near the tourist town of Cessnock, Australia. Hunter Valley is covered with miles and miles of vineyards and wineries at the base of the Brokenback Mountain Range. Because it is winter here, the vines are bare this time of year; however, they still cast a beautiful landscape across the valley.

Ron and I stayed at the Tuscany Wine Estate Resort, and our room opened to vineyards and a beautiful pond as well as a view of the mountains. Every morning we woke up to kangaroos hanging out by the pond, and it seemed like everywhere we looked kangaroos littered the countryside. We would try to sneak up on them to get pictures before they would take off, and we never tired of getting a glimpse of them in their natural habitat.

We spent two days in the Hunter Valley and toured many of the boutique-ish wineries as well as took part in the wine tastings. Neither of us are big wine drinkers, but we enjoyed learning about the different processes of making wine as well as touring the beautiful wine estates and vineyards. Many of the wineries have existed through generations of families, which added a wonderful history to the area. All in all, it was a very low key, relaxing trip that we would recommend to anyone visiting the area. The views alone are all the more worth the trip.
