My Sydney Bubble

Hi Everyone,

Thought you might like to see what I have been up to during my first week in Sydney. I currently don't have a car so that pretty much limits my exploring to a five mile radius from my apartment. I will be getting a car this week which will make buying groceries so much easier. Last week I walked three miles round trip to the grocery store for 4 liters of Pepsi Max and three frozen pizzas. Oh, and one other thing about the car....not only do Australians drive on the left side of the road but the car is a stick shift. So here's to driving on the left side of the road, a steering wheel on the right side of the car, and shifting with my left hand. Wish me luck!!!

So the red circle on the map is where I live in Zetland. It's basically a city of apartment complexes, but it's really nice and close to the office. There is a park right outside of my door and plenty of cafes everywhere.

The Mint Sydney office is just off the map, but it's about a mile and a half away according to my GPS watch. It's a brand new office in a building that's only about half full, but very cool. I will take some pictures when I get a chance.

The big blue circle is Centennial Park which is Sydneys version of Lake Calhoun and my newly found running route. On nice days there are hundreds of people running, walking, biking and riding horses. If you think Calhoun is crazy, there are no rules whatsoever at Centennial Park so I find myself constantly weaving through the masses of people.

The small blue circle above Centennial Park is the rugby stadium where I was fortunate to see my first rugby game last Saturday. There are three types of rugby here in Australia and I watched a rugby union game which is very similar to the version played in the states. It was a great game and the home team won so everyone was excited. I was too full to eat a meat pie which is the must eat food at a rugby game. I'll just have to catch another game and get one next time.

The green circle is Bondi Junction which is full of plenty of shopping. Funny enough the best place to shop in Sydney is Kmart! They do have Target here but it is not affiliated with Target Corporation in the US whatsoever.

Finally the purple circle is Bondi beach. People still go to the beach this time of year but the only people in the water are surfers. I have been told there is a great 5k path that hugs the beach that I am planning to run once Nikki comes over.

I will post some pictures I took in my next post.

Take care.

Ron

PS - It finally stopped raining!!!
